BP Oil Spill, Lawyers will be the Winners, Ecology the Loser

We have talked many times on this EcoSea Blog about reduce, reuse and recycle, and on our US Lawyers site, we have talked about making the saying "crime don't pay" apply to the corporations, the real winners as always it seems in tragedy's like this are the lawyers.

We sincerely hope that the US Goverment sues BP, and if they are found to have operated in anyway that would possibly result in a spill, that they seek damages so large that it puts them out of business, and it wipes out the shareholders equity.  Until we are ready to do that, we are all kidding ourselves that we are making any kind of progress.  As long as the profits are larger that the potential liabilities, this kind of tragedy is inevitable and will continue to keep happening.

If you wipe BP out, the capitol will flow away from the oil industry and their will be a major vacuum that could only be filled by new cleaner energy sources.  Wind power if it was subsidised to the same level as oil would be cheaper today if we had throw more capitol at it. Solar would also have benefited.  We have done very little in the way of using geo thermal, why, because oil is cheap, because the government is afraid to tax it.

The US is falling behind countries like China and Brazil who are doing much more to secure their energy needs from non oil sources.  If the US is not a leader, then are standard of life is going continue to decline
